Worlds most expensive USB Gadget!

Over the last few years there have been all sorts of weird and wacky inventions that manage to find themselves attached to a USB cable. Some of the strangest ones ive seen walking around the Chinese trade fairs have included the USB hand warming gloves (why?! you ask yourself), USB cup warmer, USB humping dog, USB Pole dancer and many more.

This was spotted in Cyprus the worlds first USB Bank!

Inspirational shopping in Paris

Had a great day in Paris yesterday and managed to visit a load of very cool shops bursting with fun design led gifts. And for the benefit of anyone lost for something to do in Paris, here is the top list of gift shops in Paris:

Oops. 26 Rue de Rochechouart (nearest metro Gare du Nord)
Fleux. 39 Rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie (nearest metro Hotel de Ville)
Merci. 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais (nearest metro Saint-Sebastien Froissart)
Sam Concept Store. 35 Rue de Bretagne (nearest metro Saint-Sebastien Froissart)

I would love to take credit for being able to hunt down these cool shops on my own, but i have to give credit to Ilse from Manta Design who pointed me in the right direction(s). Thanks !

Tent London - London Design Festival

As part of London Design Festival I visited Tent London at the Old Truman Brewery during my lunch break on Friday. I have never been to Tent London before but was pleasantly surprised at the amount of innovative design at the show. There were a few piece of design that stood out for me at Tent London so I thought I would share them with you. Being a type fan this piece of typography really stood out for me, I really enjoy the use of colour and the offset of the print is brilliant, I’m just annoyed I didn’t manage to get a better photo of it!

I really liked the range of products created from yellow dusters at Tent London. These are some snaps of them, the knuckle duster is my favourite!

This final set of images from Tent London are of designed artworks from Dixit. I really like the way they have mixed art with design, I think there great and would quite like to by one.

Overall I had thoroughly enjoyable time at Tent London and cannot wait until next years London Design Festival.

Interesting finds from 100PercentDesign London:

Rice Brick

This rice brick is made from genetically engineered, super absorbent, heat fused rice grains, and is designed to be used in emergency flood defences. The brick absorbs flood waters and swells to form a water tight barrier. Clever stuff. It was originally designed by the flood defence company, Hilson. Thanks 100 Percent Design London.

Three Player Table Tennis

The guys at 100 Percent Design London don’t seem to think that 3’s a crowd. Some bright spark has put a twist on table tennis, and added a third player. Am sure this will be big Japan !!

The Wolf Within (Shadow Chair)

Found this spooky Grimm Brothers inspired chair at 100 Percent Design London. Brilliant idea, well done to the guys at Duffy London www.duffylondon.com . Awoooooo.

Maracas are back!

Maracas! It’s a word I haven’t heard for about 10 years and then I hear it from 3 different people in a week. Is this the rebirth of the next trend? Maracas talk just reminds me of this epic movie. Enjoy.

So, this is it.

My last day at Spinning Hat. I cannot believe that my internship passed so fast.
I feel like I have just started. Three months ago I came to that office for the first time. To be honest I was stressed and terrified. I have never been in the UK before, and at the very beginning I have realized that my English is not as good as I thought (probably because I have never used that language in every day situations). It was a great opportunity to catch up with my meagre vocabulary - three months of intensive English course.
I was worried that because of my language imperfections and the fact that I’m just an intern I won’t be treated seriously. But how wrong I was! It turned out that Spinning Hat is a perfect place for interns. Despite the fact that people who work here are in various age, every person is treated in the same way, everyone has the same rights. I became a member of the team very fast. I could take part in every stage of broadly defined designing process. It was an amazing experience to watch the development of every new product, from the very beginning (quick sketches) to almost (one month more and I could see samples) ready artifacts.
And it was great fun too. People from Spinning Hat are completely unpredictable. They work differently, they think differently. Their heads are full of amazing hilarious ideas.
Crossing the doorstep of Spinning Hat office you come into Neverland where your age is only a number. They surprised me all the time. And I don’t remember when was the last time I laughed so often (Courtney and Simon, even though sometimes I didn’t understand your specific sense of humour, you should be prescribed as a remedy for autumn depression). The atmosphere was very friendly. I will never forget the last day and our lovely dinner in that small Italian restaurant (thank you, Damon). Liam and Canny, I wouldn’t survive without your emotional support and our small talks during the morning tea (but I still don’t understand how you can drink tea with milk…ugh!).

Thank you guys for three months of unpretentious fun and valuable experience in my curriculum vitae:)

And good luck!

I’m waiting for your first Spinning Hat shop in Poland!
And by the way, look what I found on polish website…

It was a pleasure to work with you.

Best wishes,

Ps: I have already started to prepare for my travels. I bought (too many) books, clothes, Kellogg’s, Marmite and of course tea, tea and more tea… But these are the things that I’m taking with me as well, my favorite products from Spinning Hat. They will remind me about you and about the great time I spent in one of the most beautiful city I have ever been too. In London.

Ps 2: Cheryl, I can’t wait to see your wedding pictures :)

London Design Week

Design week has hit London, nine days of amazing design in one of the most creative capitals in the world. All over London exhibits are taking place, showcasing new talent and concepts. The Spinning Hat office is very excited and plan to enjoy as much of the design festival as we can possibly cram into nine days.

One installation that has caught our attention is project OUTRACE at Trafalgar Square created by Designers Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram, it encourages the general public to take control of eight industrial robots.

With a combination of engineering and imagination 'OUTRACE' is a popup factory: a temporary production facility for writing large scale messages with light in three dimensions.

This is a must see even if your not a fan of design, after all where else would you given the chance to send a text message to a robot and then see if written using light for everyone in Trafalgar Square to see?

Exoskeleton thats a handy piece of kit

Here at Spinning hat HQ we enjoy a bit of forward thinking technology and this definitely fits the bill. This is the military’s new exoskeleton, designed to aide soldiers in running faster, carrying heavy objects and help bring peace to the world...

Currently this is still in the prototype stage, however the below article discusses how the military plan to use this new device to its full potential.

Lego art

LEGO ART

Do you remember the time when you were sitting on the floor with your friends and building what ever you wanted from lego? Well, I remember. When I was a child lego was a desirable toy in my country, maybe because it was quite expensive so not everybody could have it. I didn’t. But sometimes when my mum had to stay at work longer I spent my time at my neighbour’s house. There was a boy from my class whose father was working in Germany and earned more than other parents. Michael had plenty of bricks. LEGO BRICKS. I really enjoyed those afternoons.

Lego reminds me about my childhood, maybe this is the reason why I like them so much.
And one day I discovered that they are not just bricks. They can became an inspiration. I found fascinating artworks by Nathan Sawaya. What do you think about them? Aren’t they just great?

Here you can find more his lego masterpieces:

Ps Did you know that more than 400 billion LEGO bricks have been produced since 1949? Stacked on top of each other, this is enough to connect the Earth and the Moon ten times over!!!

Kinetic Sculptor

Do you remember Pinocchio? A fairy tale by Claudio Collodi about a woodcarver named Geppetto who created a wooden puppet? Because of Gepetto’s desire to have a son sculpture from a piece of pine became a real boy. Sometimes, especially when we want something very much, the things that seemed impossible come true… And it’s not a magic but the strength of our faith…

Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist. He is known as a kinetic sculptor because he builds sculptures looking like animal skeletons that can really move using the wind on the beaches of the Netherlands. Take a look at his most favorite works.

One of my professors shown me that movie and it changed the way I thought about my dreams. Now I know that everything can happen. If you really want it.

Posters that make you think

Amazing person with a really sharp tongue and peculiar sense of humour, demanding teacher adored by his students, talented graphic designer and what is the most important one of the best poster designers we’ve ever had…

Ladies and gentleman I’m honoured to represent you dr Lex Drewinski…

I met him last year. I took a part in one of his workshops in Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan (Poland) where I study. It was a great opportunity to get to know the way he works and - I must admit - one of the most important designing experience in my life.

I hope you'll enjoy his posters as much as I do.x
