Worlds Largest Snow Sculpture of Santa

Known as ‘The Ice City’ each year China’s Harbin hosts the International Ice and Snow Festival which officially begins on January 5th and attracting approximately 800,000 tourists. Despite temperatures plummeting to -24F in winter organizers have revealed that the effects of global warming are taking a toll as the snow and ice now melt more rapidly than in the past.

This giant Santa Claus ice sculpture, stands at an impressive 160 meters (525 ft) long and 24 meters (79 ft) high and uses approximately 13,000 cubic meters of snow. The weather swings between warm and cold, so it becomes very wet and slippery on the ice making it very dangerous for the builders to work.

Paper folding Animation

Donato Sansone has taken animation to a whole new level. By the looks of things he draws his sketches onto hundreds of sheets of paper then folds them up enabling a story to be revealed when unfolded. This video is truly amazing but be warned, this video does contain scenes of a violent nature.

Remote Controlled Animals

Now this looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie but this is actually real. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley have created a remote controlled Cyborg Beetle. By placing a microprocessor, a radio receiver and a battery onto the beetle, scientists are able to control the beetle's taking off, landing and the direction of which it flys. It does this by sending electrical pulses through electrodes which are implanted into the beetles optic lobes and flight muscles. The Pentagon have provided funding for this project with hopes that the beetle can be used in situation such as search and rescue mission where is may not be safe to send in humans. This amazing piece of technology shows that it is possible for humans to control the flight of an animal so I wonder how much longer it will be until we have remote controlled pets!

Movember Turned upside down

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression.

Here at Spinning Hat we had an in house competition between the staff for the best moustache entry for Movember.

And the winner was our Wacky Designer Gary, and boy did he manage to put a spin on things.

Gary dressed his chin up as a police biker. Not only did he win our competition but his chin has also managed to get a part starring in 911.

Spread the word about Movember, its for a great cause, and you get to look like an idiot for a month and get away with it.
